How to Get the Most from Quinncia

Career Advisor Walk-In Appointments

Advisors

  • Find out what system they use to book appointments. 
  • Explain that the Quinncia link should be right above or below the appointment booking link with an advisor. 
  • Provide clear instructions regarding what to do and explain that the student needs to use Quinncia before their advisor appointment.
    • Collaborate with the advisor to compile materials for their college. 

Students

  • Ensure that students download the resume template from the Quinncia/Uni website.
    • Explain that they need to create a resume from scratch using the template. 
    • Create a template using Word, then export it as a PDF.
    • Upload the new resume to Quinncia. Make sure that professors have benchmarks set for each class of students. 
      • Sophomores/Juniors – less than 10 improvements 
      • Juniors/Seniors – less than 5 improvements
  • Students must complete the resume piece before they can move on to the interview portion. 
  • They must complete at least one interview before the appointment to access abilities and compare to benchmarks. 
  • Work with professors to compile materials for students that provide clear instructions on resumes and interviews. 
  • Students should then bring a hard copy of their resume to their advisor appointment for personalized edits and suggestions. 

Assigning Quinn in an existing class

Advisors

  • Find out the class and subject. 
    • What is the current class structure?
    • When and how will Quinncia be used? 
      • For resume, interview, or both? 
      • What are the assignment dates and due dates? Make sure to include this information in an email to students.
  • Professors and advisors should meet with Quinncia 3 to 5 times before implementing it in class. 
    • Teach them how to: 
      • Set up Quinncia for their class
      • Review set up 
      • Invite students
      • Review scores and download lists of students
  • Work with the professor to compile materials with clear instructions for students. 
  • Inform students that they have access to the system after the class ends. 

Students

Resume 

  • Students must complete the resume piece to move on to the interview portion. 

Interviews

  • Students should schedule the interview while they are still in class. 
  • Quinncia will automatically send interview prep instructions when they schedule the meeting. 
  • Students can answer practice questions anytime, but they must schedule the mock interview. 
    • Students will receive their scores within 24 hours after completing their interview. 
    • They will receive an email from Quinncia when their feedback is ready.
  • Students must answer all the questions to complete the interview. 
  • They can complete the interview portion as many times as they want to.

Creating a class with Quinn

Advisors

  •  What is the class structure and what year will the students in the class be completing? 
    • Remember that career fairs and the recruitment cycle is different for Fall and Spring. 
      • Fall recruitment starts in September and October, and many people focus on full-time positions. 
      • Spring/summer recruitment is mainly for interns and positions that could not be filled. 
  • How will Quinncia be used? For resume, interview, or both?
    • What are the assignment dates and due dates? Make sure to include this information in an email to students. 
  • Sample Quinncia assignment
  • The resume class should be divided into 2 parts. 
  • The interview class should also be divided into 2 parts.
    • Part 1 
      • Students should receive their Quinncia invitations before or after class. 
      • In class, the professor should sign in to a mock student account and briefly walk through the interview portion. 
        • Discuss how to schedule an interview, practice questions, etc.
      • Students should receive clear instructions. Explain that it is a video interview and share what they will need (working laptop, camera, and microphone). 
      • Ideally, students should schedule their interviews while they are in class. 
      • Speak with students about lighting, face positions, attire, etc. 
      • Tell students that they will automatically receive interview prep instructions after they schedule the interview. 
      • They can do as many practice questions as they want, but they must schedule the mock interview.
      • Students will receive their scores up to 24 hours after they complete the interview. 
        • They will get an email from Quinn when their feedback is ready. 
      • Make sure students answer all questions to complete the interview. 
      • Students can take as many interviews as they like. 
    • Part 2
      • The professor should explain the STAR and PPF methods.
        • How are they used? 
        • Why are they used? 
        • Explain how to answer technical questions as well as creative questions.
      • Ask for feedback on Quinncia interviews from students. 
      • Review mock interviews and interview analyses with students. 
        • Explain why certain suggestions are there and how students can further improve.
      • Divide students into groups to discuss what they learned and what they could improve. 
      • Tell the students that should complete another interview before the end of the class. 
      • Randomly ask a few students to give their elevator pitches. 
      • Book time with Quinn to review the final list of students at the end of the assignment. 
        • Learn how to find their students and export them to excel. 
        • Help import or give grades in the learning management system (blackboard or canvas). 
      • Before the end of class, let students know that they will have access to Quinncia even after the class ends. 

Students
